General Job Description

Technical, investigative and counseling work involving the field of epidemiology for the Department of Health. Duties involve interviewing and counseling ! persons diagnosed as having Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)! or a form of venereal disease (VD), plus tracking, interviewing and counseling those with whom there has been sexual contact. There is significant interaction with health care providers, other professionals in the human services field, potential family members, and the general public. Work is performed under the supervision of the HIV/AIDS, STD and Hepatitis C Care Chief. All employees of the Agency of Human Services perform their respective functions adhering to four key practices: customer service, holistic service, strengths-based relationships and results orientation.

Preferred Qualifications

A background in public health or social services
A strong understanding of the harm reduction philosophy and application
Strong communication skills with a desire to deliver both group level presentations and direct service to at risk consumers related ! to viral hepatitis and other STDs.
Ability to coordinate and develop referral services for medical evaluation and case management for chronically infected persons and/or person who use injection or non-injection illegal drugs (e.g., resource guide or website development to address the medical, social, and substance abuse treatment needs of HCV infected persons)

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Bachelor's degree
Experience: Two years at or above a technical level in public health, nursing or an allied health field, social work counseling or in educational guidance or teaching at a secondary or adult level.
Note: Additional work experience as described above may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a semester for six months basis.
OR
Master's degree in public health, nursing, medicine, social work, guidance, counseling, psychology or a closely related field.
