Background and-or Security Investigation required DUTIES:
This position is located in the Medical Service.

General Description of Assigned Duties: Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner for Sleep Medicine at the WRJ VAMC whose primary areas of responsibility will involve the Sleep Medicine Clinics and the Continuous Positive airway Pressure (CPAP) Program for patients with sleep-disordered breathing. Additional duties within the Pulmonary Service may include the management of patients with lung nodules, suspected lung cancer, or other chronic pulmonary conditions. This individual is delegated the authority and responsibility in his/her area of expertise to assume major clinical, consultative, educational, research, and administrative dut! ies and assignments related to the care of patients with a variety of sleep complaints and other selected pulmonary disorders. This PA/NP will be fully qualified and certified to function in both a clinical and administrative role and in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the WRJVAMC.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

English Language Proficiency : No person shall be appointed to direct patient-care position unless you are proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

Physical Requirements : Must pass a pre-employment physical.

Education or Training: Applicants must be graduates of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate state accrediting agency and possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a professional Nurse Practitioner! in any state, territory, or commonwealth. Additionally, successful com! pletion of formal education program which prepares nurses to function in an advanced practice setting is required. Certification by a national certifying organization (ANA, etc.) as an advanced practice nurse is also required.

Education or Training:
1. A bachelor's degree from a PA Training program which is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA);

or

2. Graduation from a PA training program of at least 1! 2 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a bachelor's degree in a health care occupation or a health-related science;

or

3. Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a period of progressively responsible health care experience such as an independent duty medical corpsman, licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, medical technologist, or medical technician. The duration of approved academic training and health care experience must total at least 5 years.

Certification: As of March 12, 1993, certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (NCCPA) is a requirement for employment. This requirement does not apply to non-certified PAs on VA rolls as of that date.
