Background and-or Security Investigation required DUTIES:
This position is locat! ed at the Bennington Community Based Outpatient Clinic. The co! re functions of this position include diagnosing and treating acute and chronic health care problems, performing adult care check-ups, and prescribing medication and treatments. Diagnoses and manages minor trauma including suturing. The incumbent will assess and provide treatment to general medical patients.

Duties include but are not limited to:
a. Performing initial history and physical examinations and
assessing health status on outpatients. Documenting all visits in the electronic
medical record is required. Regular
review of the care rendered to outpatients will also be accomplished by the
supervising physician.

b. Screening outpatients to determine need for further follow-up outpatient
care. May also screen patients to determine the need for hospital admission,
however, concurrence must be made by supervising physician or alternate.

c. Providing ongoing outpatient care for assigned patients.

d. Scr! eening outpatients to determine the need for further heath care including
appropriate consultations where such need is apparent.

e. Ordering and interpreting when appropriate diagnostic studies such as
laboratory tests, xrays, electrocardiograms, s and other specialized tests or
studies to detect abnormalities and/or screening.

f. Carrying out health promotion and disease prevention activities.

g. Drawing blood specimens for testing and performing other comparable
laboratory procedures as needed.

h. Initiating and expediting requests for consultations and scheduling special
tests and studies.

i.. May counsel patients on VA policy of living wills, Do Not Resuscitate, and Do
Not Incubate.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Nurse Practitioner Qualifications:
Citizenship : Citizen of the United States .

English Language Proficiency : No person shall be appointed to d! irect patient-care position unless you are proficient in spoken and wri! tten English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

Physical Requirements : Must pass a pre-employment physical.

Education or Training: Applicants must be graduates of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate state accrediting agency and possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a professional Nurse Practitioner in any state, territory, or commonwealth. Additionally, successful completion of formal education program which prepares nurses to function in an advanced practice setting is required. Certification by a national certifying organization (ANA, etc.) as an advanced practice nurse is also required.

Physician Assistant Qualifications:
Basic Qualification Requirements:
Citizenship: Citizen of the United States.

English Language Proficiency: No person shall be appointed to direct patient-c! are position unless you are proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment physical.

Education or Training:
1. A bachelor's degree from a PA Training program which is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA);

or

2. Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a bachelor's degree in a health care occupation or a health-related science;

or

3. Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a period of progressively responsible health care experience such as an independent duty medical corpsman, licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, medical technologist, or medical technician. The duration of approved academic training and health care expe! rience must total at least 5 years.

Certification: As o! f March 12, 1993, certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (NCCPA) is a requirement for employment. This requirement does not apply to non-certified PAs on VA rolls as of that date.
